"With a projected 25% annual growth over the next five years, it's time to invest in social media." @SocialGurus
I spend a lot of time working with artists to help them grow their social media influence and grow the followers. I've got tons of anecdotal evidence showing success, but I wanted to take on growing social media presence as a true experiment. Wanna see how that is working out for me?
Social Media and Social Networking SitesLike with content marketing, due to the continuously developing internet marketing industry, there are countless digital media and social networking sites, all of which have a unique characteristic and purpose. As part of an introduction, here are a few social network examples.
Facebook is the biggest and arguably most powerful social network in the world with 1.55 billion active monthly users. Regardless if you are a startup or fortune 500 company, you need to be on Facebook and start positively engaging with your consumers.
Twitter is known as the ‘‘in the moment’’ platform and boasts a respectful 255 million active monthly users. Twitter is a perfect online marketing tool for businesses that want to reach out to people (and are ready for a reply). The key is to be quick and smart, ever heard of dunk in the dark?
Instagram is a visual platform designed for customers to post, share, comment and engage through digital media. As the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.
LinkedIn is regarded as the professional social networking site. LinkedIn largely focuses on b2b marketing rather than b2c.
There's also Google +, Youtube, Foursquare Snapchat, and Pintrest, but they haven't proven to be strong social sites for conversion.
THE SOCIAL GROWTH EXPERIMENT
At it's most basic, I want to grow my followers...but not just amass followers, but rather I want to attract new followers and nurture them into being an active and vibrant community that helps extend my social reach (even if they don't realize they are doing so). I'm going to focus my growth on the big three - Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
First off, let's establish a base line. This is where I stood in my social media reach as of October 5th, 2017. I acknowledge that my numbers aren't very good. I've treated my social media channels rather poorly the past couple of years - lack of consistent posting, mixed and confusing brand messaging, no editorial plans, no real strategy.
